Day 17 Make a Hot Chocolate Station

It will soon be the shortest day of the year. And with these long dark nights and falling temperatures what better way to warm up than with a mug of hot chocolate. It would make a perfect treat to come home to after a wintery walk.

Whether you’re the “instant – just-add-hot-water” variety or the “stir it on the stove and savour that smell” type, one thing we can all agree on is toppings!

TOP TIP! If using cocoa powder, try using vanilla flavoured soya milk to add an extra creamy flavour.

To make it easier, and much more fun, gather together a selection of toppings on a tray and allow everyone to create their own combination.

You can find a plethora of suitable toppings in the cake decorating section at the supermarket. Chocolate buttons, gold stars and Christmas cupcake toppers, such as mini Santas, all add that festive touch to your hot chocolate.

TOP TIP! Use a candy cane to stir your hot chocolate. It adds a lovely minty flavour.

Hot chocolate is the perfect companion to a lovely home-made mince pie!
